Bikaner –Khichan- Jaisalmer Photography Road Trip
Travel and explore with Photo Routes through the lens and view India’s most colorful and exciting
regions! This is your opportunity to experience and photograph the brilliance of these regions’
historically significant palaces, forts, havelis, tribal villages, colorful houses, exotic people, street
bazaars, majestic lakes, desert scenes and wildlife. In this tour of Rajasthan learn everything
from how to capture the expanse of a landscape to photographing the smallest detail. Work in
the field with Photo Routes and learn the finer points of maximizing early morning and late afternoon
light. We will shoot at some of the most beautiful locations in Bikaner - Khichan and Jaisalmer.
We will spend most of the daylight hours photographing in the field, and schedule photo
critiques in the evening after dark.
Tour Dates
21st Dec to 26th Dec 2018
Day 1:
Departure from Delhi early morning (6am) by A/c Tempo Traveller. Reach Bikaner by late evening. Breakfast & Lunch enroute
Check in to Hotel Harasar Haveli.
DAY 2
Freshen up and leave for a full day city Photo tour after breakfast.
Bikaner is a vibrant desert town with a fabulous fort, a refreshing outpost feel and fabulous crafts.
Close to the fort lies the rickety old walled city, a medieval maze of narrow, dark and uneven streets
decorated with dark red sandstone Haveli’s and some elegantly painted Jain temples. Return to hotel in the evening. Review of day’s work after dinner.
DAY 3
Leave early morning for Jaisalmer via Khichan
Brief stop at Khichan.
Khichan is a village in the Jodhpur district of Rajasthan around 170 kms from Bikaner that in recent years
has established a tradition of feeding Demoiselle Cranes when they migrate here in winter. Around
5,000 Kgs (11,000 lb) of bird seed are consumed every day by the feeding birds. Over 9000 Demoiselle
Cranes visit Khichan village for almost 8 months of the year.
Lunch en route Jaisalmer, reaching by evening, check in to Hotel .
Day 4
Early start for Fort and Haveli’s after breakfast.
The city of Jaisalmer has witnessed different forms of architecture in different eras. The ancient times saw dominating Rajputana architecture where as the medieval period witnessed the fusion of Rajputana and subtle Islamic architecture. It is this era that saw the construction of most of the Havelis. Haveli is places, which served as the residence of Wazirs i.e. ministers and landlords. Usually they are very big and have lots of rooms and open space.
Return to Hotel by noon. Depart after lunch for Sam Dunes by 3.30pm.
Return late night after dinner. Review of day’s work.
Day 5
Depart early for Bikaner. Breakfast & lunch en-route.
Visit some typical Rajasthani viilages on the way. Photograph their unique lifestyle & habitat.
Arrival at Bikaner by evening. Night Stay at Hotel.
Day 6
Departure for Delhi by early morning. Breakfast and lunch enroute.
